Adidas adiZERO Boston is named after the iconic Boston Marathon. This pair of trainers is a long-distance running shoe intended for serious runners.

An update to this shoe is the added Formotion technology on the heel that allows the foot to adapt to different ground and footfalls. A full-forefoot adiPRENE+ is also installed for additional propulsion and responsiveness. The TORSION system in the middle is maintained, it did a pretty good job for the previous version in maintaining the midfoot integrity.

The upper is made of a COOLEVER mesh that allows air in and out of the shoe for a cooler and more comfortable environment for the feet. It also has a clover shaped yarn that manages heat and sweat, reducing discomfort and increasing performance. The mesh makes the shoe suitable for running in warm weather.

The ZigTech is a one-of-a-kind zigzag-shaped sole that is very springy as well as very durable. This sole technology conserves and returns energy for the springy ride. It works by absorbing shock upon impact while enhancing the forward propulsion for every transmission. Many who are not accustomed to the previous version’s ride are surprised by the sudden forward movement, but after getting used to it, they find that the shoe helps them run faster. The forward propulsion also help people who have shin splits as it reduces wear and tear on the shins. The Kinvara 2 is still lightweight and still has a relatively low heel, only a 4mm drop from heel to forefoot. The midsole still consists of injection-molded EVA surrounding Saucony’s ProGrid Lite, which is lighter and twenty percent more responsive than EVA.

The ProGrid Lite provides a certain amount of rebound as well as a centering of the heel during the heel-strike phase of the gait.

The outside of the GEL-Cumulus 13 is constructed with synthetic leather and nylon mesh. These materials molds the feet and keep them light and cool. It is flexible and breathable, yet fitting enough for stability. For this update, this footwear’s upper is highlighted with the construction of the Discrete Eyelets. Saucony Grid Ignition 2 is a lightweight running shoe. Following the footsteps of its predecessor, this Ignition 2 now features the use of an independent crash pad instead of the decoupled crash pad which provides a softer landing on heel strike. The Ignition 2’s midsole also features a non-visible grid system offering stable cushioning in the heel.

The triangular lug design of the outsole maintains traction and cushioning on all terrain. The XT-600 carbon rubber outsole material is designed for good wear and outstanding abrasion and traction properties. This running shoe also features a padded collar with Achilles notch for added mobility and a textile lining with removable sockliner for the runner’s convenience.

It adds more cushioning than its predecessor the Brooks Radius 5, and lives up to the Brooks philosophy of subtle, non-radical improvements. The Saucony Kinvara targets the new fad in running these days, barefoot running. It is kind of ironic how strong running shoe companies market their products that are shoes to the barefoot running crowd. Shouldn’t they run shoe-less?

It may seem ridiculous at first but Saucony’s entry into the market with its Kinvara is no joke. A few months have passed since its introduction and a lot of users have already praised the Saucony Kinvara for its performance, ironically as a shoe for barefoot runners.

The Saucony Kinvara, like most other shoes for this niche rides low. Probably as low as normal racers. What makes the Kinvara a very good shoe for neutral runners (thankfully, they can be good even for normal non-barefoot folks) is that they have well cushioned forefoot. The New Mizuno Wave Creation 11 is a typical Mizuno shoe that is blessed with a plethora of technologies meant to make your running as comfortable as possible. Along with the Wave Rider this joins Mizuno’s line of cushion running shoes which they call Neutral Running Shoes.

The main difference between this and the Mizuno Wave Rider line is that this pair is designed to those who want a more cushioned and protective shoe. Along with this protection is added weight. This is substantially heftier cushioned running shoe that its cousin, the Mizuno Wave Rider.

However that does not take anything away from the Mizuno Wave Creation 11, this shoe is currently one of the best selling shoes that are cushioned. Its defining feature is what they call Dynamotion Fit which is Mizuno’s newest technology.

It’s a fancy footwear technology that is designed to have the shoes form/deform itself with the way your skin stretches when running. The difference between this and other “better fit” technologies from other running shoe manufacturers is that Mizuno’s actually works while your foot is in motion. This is in contrast to shoes only designed to fit well when just being fitted.

The new Adidas Supernova Glide 2 is one of 2010′s top cushion running shoes. The first Glide that was a replacement for the legendary Adidas Supernova Cushion was well received. This shoe has a lot of legacy that has evolved with it.

This year’s version does not disappoint. Adidas upgrade this shoe to give a bit more room on the forefoot and surprisingly gave it a little bit of outer sole stability.

The Adidas Supernova Glide 2 looks quite different because of the added heft of the stability of the medial post. It almost looks like a motion control running shoe except for the segmented forMOTION heel that gives the shoe a soft ride.

Aside from the stability provided by the now bigger medial post the three stripes that make the Adidas logo provides a firm support for the upper part. The slightly softer mesh on the toebox (compared to the older Glide) gives this Adidas Cushion Running Shoe a comfortable and snug fit on the front portion of the shoe.

All in all this shoe is a good upgrade to last year’s model. This shoe is best for those wanting the very robust platform all Adidas shoes provide in a package that can very well cushion the bigger runners among us.

Brooks is fast becoming a trouble for Nike. The whole running community already considers them to have a stranglehold of the Motion Control Running Shoes sector with the Brooks Beast Running Shoes and now they are gaining a following with their Glycerin Series.

The new Brooks Glycerin features a new GEL Cushion system that is what they call non-Newtonian. That simply means that the cushioning system adjusts to how hard you drive the shoe. This new innovation makes the Brooks Glycerin 8 quite a formidable cushioned shoe that will prove more than its place on top of this list.

Adidas Supernova Glide 2

The Adidas Supernova Glide 2 is the successor to the very successful Glide 1 which was itself successor to the legendary Supernova Cushion series. We all know how much the Supernova changed the landscape for cushion running shoes.

This year’s version of the Adidas Supernova Glide is better than ever. They changed it somewhat to be able to provide some stability which is a welcome feature for those who aren’t extremely high arch. All in all the Adidas Supernova Glide 2 is looking good and with its expanded range and low price looks like the best seller of 2010 when it comes to cushion running shoes.

Mizuno Wave Creation 11

The Wave Creation 11 from Mizuno makes itself known! It has overtaken its usually better selling brother the Mizuno Wave Rider series. This new cushion running shoes from Mizuno has gotten good feedback with its new DynamotionFit which allows this running shoe to adapt to the changes of your foot while it is in-motion. This dynamic fit is a breakthrough compared to the competitions more “static fit.”

This is also very good for beginning runners are it offers more protection for those with higher arches. The heavier weight and wave plate make it easy for the Mizuno Wave Creation 11 to accomplish this.

The Mizuno Wave Rider 12 boasts a very smooth ride for a pair Cushion Running shoes. Mizumo claims to have minimized rapid acceleration and deceleration of the foot and reducing shock and increasing stability.

This shoe definitely lives up to Mizuno’s claims. It provides a soft but smooth ride and is considered to have an outstanding fit and impressive feel for such a lightweight pair of cushion running shoes. It just weighs an amazing  11.3 ounces and retails for $ 99 USD.

If you are looking for a shoe with great feel and amazing fit that’s extremely light and  kind to your high arches the Mizuno Wave Rider 12 is for you.

One of the lightest cushion running shoes out there. The New Balance 758 has generously sprinkled this shoe with “hi-tech” materials all around it.

Coming in at a very light 10 oz the New Balance 758 offers great heel absorption on impact through its N-Ergy system. It does really run light and sports 360 degrees of Reflectivity for those runners needing it.

Proven technology across a lot of models is what the Adidas Response Cushion 18 is all about. The shoe adapts well to the ground for those  comfortable shorter runs.

It provides good impact absorption at the heel then tapers a very soft cushion at the forefoot. Great for heavier runners who are looking for durability, high arch cushioning and great value

This shoe is unique among the pack of the best cushion running shoes as it features what Asics calls Biomorphic Fit. Through “memory foams” the shoe shapes it itself to the individual runner as it is being used. Many have attributed the great fit of this cushion running shoe to that feature.

Cushioning is superb even for a cushion running shoe. Asics definitely provided some plush cushioning around the fore foot area.

The weight might be an issue to smaller runners but its Arch support is top notch for the larger neutral underpronator looking for great cushioning.
