Asics Gel Nimbus 12 Review

The Asics Gel Nimbus 12 hits the running shoe scene like a high-tech jet, loaded with features and ready to fly. It’s the 12th installment of Asics’ Nimbus line, and does not disappoint runners looking for a solid, steady ride.

A great deal of features and upgrades have been packed into this shoe, most of which are specific to the brand. It is positioned as a trainer with all the gadgets, built for speed and strength to bring out a humming, rhythmic ride for the runner. The Impact Guidance System (I.G.S. ®) is a design feature that enhances the natural heel strike to toe-off motion of the foot, providing excellent propulsion with each step.

The Guidance Line ™, which is new to the Nimbus 12, is a vertical spine along the length of the shoe that also works to enhance gait efficiency, or the natural motion of the running foot. The Space Trussic System ® is another design feature that allows the midsole area to collapse and deform to promote flexibility in the foot.

The ComforDry™ Sockliner is an interior meant to decrease perspiration in the foot, and keep the feet comfortable and dry during the heat of a run. The Biomorphic Fit ® Upper is a shock absorber at the upper part of the shoe that prevents the foot and shoe from buckling in hazardous areas in strenuous terrain.

To top off this inspector gadget of a running shoe, the laces are aligned asymmetrically to accommodate the natural contour of the foot and give it a tighter, more secure hug.

The eyelets of the laces in particular are designed to optimize tension distribution between the laces and get the best fit out of each foot.

Users of the Asics Gel Nimbus 12 feel that this shoe is the softest version of the Nimbus yet. While it boasts a high number of fancy features, users did not notice the subtle effects of each feature that much, including the asymmetrical lace design. It has been described to be especially comfortable for runners with wide feet.

The shoe is priced on the higher end of the spectrum, with a suggested retail tag of $125.

Fans of the Asics feel won’t be disappointed with the brand’s latest Nimbus, but the casual runner might be better off with a more economical ride ( like the Asics Gel Cumulus 12 ) that does the same things Nimbus does at a lower price tag. However this cushioned running shoes from Asics has a repertoire of features that makes it among the best high end shoes of this class. At the end of the day the Asics Gel Nimbus 12 delivers top notch performance for the serious runner.
